In recent years we have had mild winters with little opportunity to curl outdoors. However, in Autumn 2001 renovation work was carried out on the old village pond at Drumore. We nearly managed an outdoor bonspiel in January 2002 when the ice was marked out and a few practice stones thrown. However, an overnight thaw prevented a game.
2003 started with what we curlers call better weather. It remained cold for an extended period but with little snow allowing thick smooth ice to form. Curling took place on the pond for the first time for many years on 8 January.
